Day 4: More errands! The three of us roamed the streets on our own like the tourists we are. Our 'American' clothes, our noses in a Portuguese survival book, spitting out random phrases to strangers in the street, trying our tongues at the language- we felt eyes on our backs everywhere we went. From our little apartment to the city center and beyond, we enjoyed the day we had to spend exploring on our own.
This morning we set off for a little cafĂ© down the street. The coffee here is so bold and alive with flavor, we took our time enjoying it and contemplated ways to take some with us when we return. As we sat at the table, eating our pastries and drinking our coffee, we opened and read the daily text. Couldn't have asked for a better way to start the day. Somehow, it seemed so fitting to read those words and to be surrounded by the Portuguese culture. After discussing it, the three of us could not be more excited to meet the brothers and sisters in the English congregation tomorrow night and to make 'appointments' in the ministry. It almost felt as if a fire was burning in my core, ignited by the idea of being a part of Jehovah's organization and getting to experience this great opportunity and blessing to the full.
Unfortunately, nothing too exciting happened today. Besides the raging downpour and crazy drivers almost running us over, we were all seriously jet lagged. Most of our conversations consisted of, "how are you feeling", and "I'm so tired", or "I can't wait to go sleep". Somehow we managed to be out until 7, walking in the pouring rain. It almost felt like home, though. The city at night is something else. I hope to get more pictures of the lights and the architecture and the art that define Portugal. Around every corner is a surprise awaiting us. But this is only day 4 and there are many more unexplored corners.
