Day 2: Landing at the Lisbon airport didn't seem to phase us. We were so exhausted from the flights, the place seemed to be spinning with people and echoes of tongues we couldn't comprehend. Upon grabbing our luggage, a young man approached us asking if we were the people he was waiting to pick up- which we later figured out that he definitely wasn't the one we were supposed to be leaving the airport with- but Nuno, our Portuguese neighbor, saw the Watchtowers laying on my luggage and approached us.
Driving through the city was nothing like I had imagined. In ways it reminded me of Portland- the buildings and the bridges. In other ways it seemed like something out of a Doctor Seuss book- trees in shades of greens I didn't recognize twisting in all different directions, cobblestone streets that rolled throughout the graffiti stained city. Everything still felt like a dream.
Arriving to our apartment was another story. I could feel myself dizzy with adrenaline and anxiety pumping through my head as reality sunk like heavy rocks in the pit of our stomachs. Suddenly we missed our family and our friends desperately. The stairs, the giant doors, the long hallways; it all seemed to swallow us as we toured the building...
Anxiety attack over, though, we are happy now. After the tears and talking subsided, Audry and I slept the rest of the day away, patiently awaiting Mackenzie's arrival.  Just woke up not a half hour ago and already, I'm feeling excited again. The view from our balcony, the sounds of Portugal below us, the promise that our trip will come with many blessings- our second day of our European adventure comes to a peaceful end.

  1. Does it feel like there is an "old age" to where you are?
